According to the calendar, spring is officially here! Looking out the window, it seems it could be spring…the snow is gone and the sun is shinning. If only it was warmer and the garden was green. It won’t be long, though…
We really got a taste of spring a couple weeks ago when we set up at the Cedar Rapids Landscape & Garden Expo. Those of you who stopped by to say “hi’ had a chance to see some of the new things we’ll have this spring. The Aquatic Add-A-Spheres are a fun conversation piece to add to your pond. And yes, the fish really do like to swim up in there!! The disappearing fountain was by far the most popular part of our display. It is such a quick and easy way to get the sound of running water in your garden. A disappearing fountain takes up so little room; even the smallest gardens have enough space to tuck one in.
It may not be gardening weather quite yet, but the plants are beginning to arrive. We already received our annual plugs and over the next few weeks all the perennials, hostas, and water plants will start coming. Let’s hope for an early spring so we can get everything out of the cramped greenhouse and into your gardens!
It is hard to believe March is almost over. April is already looking crazy. Not only will we be up to our ears in hostas, perennials, and water plants (oh, my!), but I will be doing a couple presentations, as well. The Evansdale Garden Club and the Eastern Iowa Pond Society have both asked me to speak on hostas and I am looking forward to meeting with both groups.
You may be wondering what is going on with our spring open house…well, we are getting very close to releasing the details. We are still having it and it should be a full day of fun, as it has in the past. I can tell you that we are moving it to mid May with the hopes that the weather will be warmer and we will have more plants ready. You’ll get the scoop here, first, so keep checking back. I am also nearly finished with the spring newsletter, so watch for that to show up in your mail box in a couple weeks.
Happy Spring!!
